Shade of Oak

You struck me like never before,

Your nails unwrapped my bindings,

Wound tight, value lessening as the days trickle by,

Somewhere on the spectrum between hindrance, and detrimental,

A coffin for my love to be buried in,

My emotions like white waters; germinating these seeds,

The dampened wood rots around me; I inhale the experience.

Let these roots taste your wild soils,

Let them rejoice, the forest will sing,

The animals, the bugs, the leaves will celebrate our rule,

A return to myself, a return to you.

Obfuscation ceases and the dreams find new sheep to count,

I fear nothing, I am ready,

I’ve held my mind under life’s torrents,

Doubts collect as dust; bottled, and categorized,

A reminder of that which is shed,

The cocoon the butterfly reveres.

When I find myself lazing in the shade of this oak,

You’ll beckon me to the tall grass for a dance,

And dance we shall, dance we shall,

Our bodies may be nervous, but our souls know better,

They billow from our mouths, melding above our heads,

Kissed by the moon, embraced by the sun,

They were meant,

We were meant.
